Even though they’re now partially owned by Sobey’s parent company (Empire Group), Longo’s is still very much a family run, very well-respected, 36 store supermarket chain in the Toronto/Hamilton market. They run clean stores with quality products and service. Longo’s is very much focused on giving back to the community through the Longo’s Family Charitable Foundation and other initiatives. Additionally, Longo’s is very progressive in its sustainability initiatives, being a pioneer in CO2 refrigeration in many of their stores plus “Near Net Zero Energy” store designs.
Partnering with Neelands Group, Longo’s long-term refrigeration contractor, we worked closely on several re-model initiatives to adapt their foodservice design to new realities post-Covid. Additionally, Longo’s has been working away at upgrading various departments in a number of their stores, including delicatessen and bakery remodels.
For the food service areas, we settled on a hot / cold / soup set-up that is in-line, closer to the food preparation / kitchen area. Longo’s decided to go with a special adjustable sneezeguard which would allow them to move from a service to self-service model easily. We incorporated a re-vamped design of our combination service / self-service case into the line-up.
Some store added plans for sushi / poke stations in their remodels, self-service olive bars, cheese islands, new refrigerated floral cases and updated bakery displays.
